Before you fantasize about establishing your own home based business marketing on the Internet, do yourself a favor and take a reality check.

Newcomers (referred to as “newbies”) dream of sitting at a kitchen table or on their sofa with a laptop on and notifications of “money received” filling their email inbox. You’ve seen business opportunities ads showing screen shots PayPal or Click Bank accounts with sale after sale. That’s what you want.

Is it possible for you to have that kind of success? It’s possible but certainly not over night. Not even in a few months. Not even likely in a year.

Don’t be taken in by business opportunities on the Internet that offer pie-in-the-sky- fantasies. I know the sales pitches are enticing. You know the ads, “Earn thousand while vacationing or sleeping.” The Sales Letters and Videos make it look all so easy. Just send them money and you are on your way to riches.

Sure you would like to have a home based internet business. You would like to quit that stressful job and boss that you hate who is constantly looking over your shoulder. It’s true. In starting your own Internet business, you really would have a new freedom. The reality check is that it is not freedom from work. It’s freedom from working for someone else.

You won’t have to deal a boss you don’t like or with petty office politics. You will also have the benefits of saving money on transportation, clothing and restaurant lunch expenses. You will also have tax deductions. However, if you are going to succeed with your home based internet businesses, you will work. You will probably work harder and longer than you did on your job. At least you will in the beginning.

If you really have the dream of owning your own Internet business working from home, that dream should be a passion; an obsession. Your business has to be your life. You live and breathe for your business.

The secret of the successful entrepreneur is that the long hours of “work” is not really work. It’s their life. It’s what they live for. When your business is your passion, you will not experience the fatigue you did on you job. The work you do will be energizing not fatiguing.

The reality is most people attempting to start their own Internet business fail. Most loose money. Many start out enthusiastic and soon loose steam and give up. If you quit your job to start a business and you loose steam and give up, not having a job can be financially devastating.

Here is my suggestion. Keep your job until your business is providing an adequate income. Yes, you will have to work 8 hours on your job, come home and work another 4 hours or so. No, your weekends won’t be fun and relaxation. Here is the reality check. If the hours and weekends working on your business are not fun; maybe owning your own business is just a nice dream to have. You have to enjoy working those evening hours and weekends. Someone once said, “If you find something you enjoy doing, you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Take a look at Donald Trump and Warren Beatty. They are Billionaires. They work longer hours than most people do on their jobs. Why do they do that? They don’t need the money. They do it because their business is their life. It is their passion. Their business is their obsession.

The reality check for you: If you have that kind of drive and passion, starting your own business is the right thing to do. If you do not have that kind of drive and passion, maybe starting your own business, is not for you.
